One of my favorite things to do every 4th of July is to flaunt a new patriotic t-shirt. And because I have my Cricut Maker there are no more buying shirts in this household because I LOVE making t-shirts for my family.
This year I found a really fun font called Fireworks from Creative Market. This font was designed for crafters to use with their cutting machines. It cuts beautifully!! I can’t wait to make even more designs with this font.
This America 4th of July cut file has each letter separated on its own layer so you can easily customize this design with different colored vinyl. Use the red and blue that comes in the file, make it all one color, or use up to seven different colors!
Make an America 4th of July T-Shirt
Follow these easy steps to turn customize the ‘America’ cut file for the perfect DIY 4th of July t-shirt.
Open Cricut Design Space and click the + to create a new project.
In the Design Panel on the left, select “Upload.”
Click Upload Image, then Browse, and navigate to the America file on your device to upload it to Cricut Design Space. Here you can change the name and add tags. Click “Save.”
Once you have the file uploaded, select it and click “Insert Images” to bring it onto your Canvas.
You’ll see the seven layers in the Layers Panel on the right side of your screen.
Before moving forward, resize the design to your desired size.
Select the design and click Ungroup at the top of the Layers Panel.
If you were to click Make It now, your cutting machine would cut out each letter but not in the position you have them in now.
To make sure the letters from each color stay in the same position as they are now, you’ll need to Attach them. Select all of the red letters in the layers panel by holding down the Shift key as you click each layer. Then click Attach at the bottom of the Layers Panel. Do the same with the blue letters.
Now click Make It and the Prepare screen will now show the letters evenly spaced as they are on the Canvas.
IMPORTANT: If you’re using iron-on vinyl DO NOT FORGET TO MIRROR each mat. Otherwise, you’ll have to redo the cut and will have wasted your material. Trust me I’ve done it!
Now if you want to make this design all one color, after the first step of ungrouping the layers, select all of the layers, and click Attach. This will automatically make the design one color.
Next, click Make It in the upper right-hand corner.
IMPORTANT: If you’re using iron-on vinyl DO NOT FORGET TO MIRROR each mat. Otherwise, you’ll have to redo the cut and will have wasted your material. Trust me I’ve done it more than once so it’s worth the extra reminder!
Now, what if you wanted to make this design with more than two colors? Let’s say you wanted to do a Red, White, and Blue theme.
After the first step of ungrouping the layers, click on each letter, then click the color palette in the Edit Toolbar to select a new color for each layer.
Then follow the steps above to select the layers from each group of colorss and Attach them.
This will ensure that each layer of colors has the letters evenly spaced out so you can easily layer them onto your shirt.
IMPORTANT: If you’re using iron-on vinyl DO NOT FORGET TO MIRROR EACH MAT. Otherwise, you’ll have to redo the cut and will have wasted your material. Hopefully, by now it’s ingrained in you and you won’t forget to Mirror 🙂
